Companies and individuals are looking for more inventive ways to use alternative fuel sources that can be employed in the heating of buildings and homes - ways to reduce the carbon footprint and therefore help the environment and lower heating costs.

Using biomass technologies - N&J Tree Services and Unilathe PLC are responding to this challenge by installing a woodburner that uses woodchip as a fuel to heat the Unilathe factory in Ford Green. The woodchip that would normally be disposed of on gardens as mulch, is being used more productively as biofuel to heat factory space that would normaly be heated by more obvious methods. As both companies reside side by side there are no fuel costs to be recovered, further reducing the carbon footprint.

The woodchip is fed into the burner via an auger the chip is burned, excess smoke passing through its tower and gas monitor into the atmoshere. The heat produced is blown via a heat exchanger and ducting into the factory heating 90,000 sq ft of factory space.

All emissions into the atmosphere are rigerously tested in order to comply with current legislation.
